Gender Discrimination - California State Law

The Fair Employment and Housing Act (“FEHA”) applies to public and private employers, labor organizations and employment agencies. Under FEHA, it is illegal for an employer to:

  1. Refuse to hire;
  2. Refuse to select the person for a training program leading to employment;
  3. Discharge or to terminate;
  4. Discriminate against the person in compensation or in terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of the job applicants or employee's sex or gender.

See California Government Code 12940(a).
